Mission:
To provide free mammograms and other breast cancer screenings when necessary to medically underserved women and men in Alabama, provide limited grants when needed, build and support breast cancer awareness among all Alabamians, and promote overall good health, well-being and education throughout the state.
Brag Lines:
In 1997, Joy Blondheim was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer. She had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, followed by eight months of chemotherapy. Joy and her husband, Dickie, decided to put a positive spin on their experience and formed the Joy to Life Foundation in 2001. The Foundation works in partnership with the Alabama Department of Public Health’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, providing its life-saving work in all of Alabama’s 67 counties. Since its founding, it has provided more than 98,000 mammograms and hundreds of screenings and physician visits.
Joy Blondheim, Co-Founder and President
“There are thousands of women (and men) who do not have health insurance or the means to pay for life-saving breast screenings. The Joy to Life Foundation answers calls for help every day, and as long as we have the funds, we will provide services to anyone in need of them. Just ask the breast cancer survivor and grandmother from New Brockton. JTL funded her mammogram, and she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Today, she is doing well and thanked the Foundation for allowing her to see her first grandchild be born.”
