central inc champions of change- family sunshine center

Mission:

The Family Sunshine Center fosters hope and healing for survivors of family violence, sexual assault and human trafficking through the provision of crisis intervention, safe shelter, counseling, advocacy and supportive service so that they may be empowered to lead safe, violencefree lives. Violence and abuse can affect anyone. Our services are free and available to everyone, regardless of race, gender, age, sex, status or any other factor. Our service sites are located in Autauga, Butler, Chilton, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lowndes, and Montgomery counties.

Background:

For more than 40 years, the Family Sunshine Center (FSC) has worked tirelessly to educate the community on the devastating impact of violence while providing services to victims/ survivors and their families. In the beginning, our focus was solely on domestic and family violence, but over time, to reflect the issues facing our community, our programs have expanded to include services for victim/survivors of dating violence, stalking, sexual assault and human trafficking.

Tay Knight, Executive Director

“Violence and abuse can happen to anyone, is unique to each victim and has long-lasting impacts, not only on the victim, but on their family, friends and community at large. But through crisis intervention, safe shelter, counseling, advocacy and supportive services, we foster healing and hope. I see it daily watching our facility dog, Louisa. She makes facing the tough realities of being a victim of violence or assault a little easier to talk about. She can help a child tell their terrible truth just by laying her head on their lap. It’s a beautiful thing.”
