Mission:
To change the way the world defines and views disability by making profound, positive differences in people’s lives every day
Background:
Starting out with five programs, Easterseals Central Alabama was born on three acres donated by the Montgomery Baptist Association. Easterseals opened its doors in the fall of 1961. The first individual served was a lady from Opelika who had lost one of her legs just below the hip. She could not wear her artificial limb walking in, but she certainly did walking out!

“We are truly providing programs that give a hand up. Our programs for children are closing the gap between them and their peers, so they can perform better in school and in activities of daily living. Our adult vocational programs are helping move people into employment so they can be contributing members of our community, giving them a greater sense of self-worth.”
